General Purpose Knots & Land Navigation
brings the skills from the first two classes together and moves students from reading maps to navigating through the real world. Students will practice a selection of versatile knots for joining rope, creating loops, attaching lines, and solving everyday problems while reinforcing skills learned in the previous sessions. The navigation portion introduces the practical use of a compass with a topographical map, including orienting the map, understanding direction, taking and following bearings, identifying terrain features, choosing routes, and navigating toward a destination when roads and familiar landmarks are no longer available.
The goal is to begin developing a fundamental preparedness skill: knowing where you are, knowing where you need to go, and having the skills to get there.
